Frequently Asked Questions

Both are almost exactly the same. The only notable differences:
1) Clients with active, debilitating mental health challenges would need to work with a therapist. Coaching is more for clients without major mental health issues, who want to work on personal development.
2) Whether you choose a coach or therapist, you will be the central figure in the process, actively engaged in exploring your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. But coaching is more “directive” and led by the coach, in comparison to therapy. As your coach, Tim will direct and lead by giving you a clear assessment of areas you can improve in yourself. He’ll provide you a clear progress plan. And he’ll gracefully guide you through therapeutic steps that lead to the specific goals you set. -
IFS, is an “experiential” personal development model, which doesn’t merely try to persuade or motivate change through reason. Instead, it immerses you in a deep, immediate exploration of how your inner landscape (thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, beliefs, and memories) - directly influences your life. Using leading-edge neuroscience-based techniques, IFS self therapy will assist you in recalibrating your inner landscape for optimal functioning and well-being.
The first few minutes of a session are for you to update your coach on your progress and challenges. Following this, we'll guide you in identifying a specific emotion, behavior, or “part” of your personality you wish to better understand and manage. We’ll then have you close your eyes and invite forth bodily sensations and mental imagery associated with the emotion/ behavior/ part. We’ll spend the rest of the session helping you a) Get to know it more; b) Enhance comprehension of its purpose in your life; c) Explore its history and its protective function; d) Facilitate its transformation into an asset rather than a barrier to your life's journey. -
An Internal family systems coach effectively targets specific emotions or behaviors that clients wish to modify or improve. For most clients, achieving substantial change typically requires around eight to ten targeted sessions focused on a particular emotion or behavior. To facilitate this transformative process, Tim recommends a commitment to a minimum coaching period of two to three months, so that you can achieve your goals. If clients have multiple concerns to address, extended coaching periods are encouraged.
One of the best qualities of IFS is that it allows for specific, measurable goals to be set from the outset. -

While Tim doesn’t directly offer psychedelic therapy, he possesses specialized training in the field and has supported numerous clients in integrating and enhancing their healing experiences from previous psychedelic therapy.
For individuals seeking a combination of IFS self therapy and psychedelic healing sessions, Tim can provide referrals to his clients for colleagues offering psychedelic healing in California.
The IFS model is known for complementing psychedelic healing exceptionally well. Both IFS and psychedelic therapy trigger heightened self-awareness. They both help reveal profound insights for inner healing and life expansion. -

IFS is a potent form of personal transformation. It focuses directly on what matters most – changing problematic behaviors and enhancing strengths. Professional therapists in the therapy field know IFS parts work is likely to bring prompt results and save lots of money. Also, professional therapists know that change occurs when you boldly look directly at your problems. Unlike some other approaches that offer more leeway to sidestep issues, IFS promotes swift change by encouraging clients to work directly on their problems.
However, it may not suit everyone. The world of coaching and therapy offers a multitude of effective approaches. Ultimately, individuals tend to benefit most from a coaching or therapeutic method that aligns best with their distinct challenges.
